The community of Encinitas, CA actually a composite of 5 communities, is located 25 miles north of San Diego along six miles of coastline. Two of the five communities, Old Encinitas (or simply Encinitas) and Cardiff-by-the-Sea (Cardiff), are coastal communities situated along historic Highway 101.
The ambience of Encinitas, CA is beachy and artsy, and the community has managed to maintain much of its original charm. It has a wonderful walkability, with more than its share of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Moonlight Beach, at the north end of town, is the site of many community events. At the south end of Encinitas is the Self Realization Fellowship, founded in 1937 by Swami Paramahana Yogananda and recognized by its striking architecture. Swami was the nickname given to the park, as well as the beach and reef below the cliff, and after enough time had passed, the name became official. A top-rated surfing destination, it’s even mentioned by the Beach Boys in the song “Surfin USA.”
